Guide to the 2017 Meeting

We’re excited to see you at the OHA annual meeting in Minneapolis! As always, our annual meeting attracts a diverse and impressive group of participants and stakeholders and features the best work in the field of oral history.  For your convenience, we have compiled detailed information (below) to help you navigate throughout OHA2017.  Thank you for participating and we hope you have a great experience!

Registration
The conference hotel is the Hilton Minneapolis, 1001 Marquette Ave South, Minneapolis, MN, 55403. The OHA registration desk will be on the second floor near the elevators. Please come to the registration desk to pick up your name badge, program book, and tickets for paid events. You can also ask questions and get help with your AV or other issues at the registration desk during the conference. Online registration will be open through Tuesday, October 3 at OHA 2017. Registration hours are:

  • Wednesday, October 4: 7:30 to 5:00
  • Thursday, October 5: 7:30 to 5:00
  • Friday, October 6: 8:00 to 5:00
  • Saturday, October 7: 8:00 to 5:00

Notes on the Meeting Schedule
This year, two traditional events are at new times. The keynote lunch will be THURSDAY at 12:30 so that Jill Lepore can be with us as our keynote speaker! Lunch is a ticketed event, but all meeting attendees are welcome at 1:00 for the keynote. (If you purchased a ticket for this event when it was listed as Friday and are not able to attend, please let us know and we will refund your fee.) The OHA member business meeting, usually held on Sunday morning, will be on SATURDAY morning from 7:30-8:45.

Presidential Reception
Many of you have signed up to attend the Presidential Reception at the Mill City Museum on Thursday evening when you registered for the meeting. You don’t need a ticket for that event since we have you on our attendee list! We will provide bus service to Mill City Museum beginning at 5:45 for the Presidential Reception. If you are part of the Mentor Program, you can catch a bus beginning at 5:15. Buses will loop continuously between the hotel and the museum throughout the evening, with the last departure from the museum at 8:15.

Program
A print program will be distributed at the OHA registration table. A PDF of the program is posted at Print Program.  The online program can be helpful as well and will continue to be updated at Online Program. You don’t need to log in to see the program, just click “View the Online Program” on the left. You may then search by day, time, person, etc. We have changed some session rooms to better accommodate attendees, so please check the room of your session in the program if you are presenting.

Speed Networking
New to oral history? Would you like to meet established oral historians? Join the OHA speed networking session on Friday, October 6 from 8:30 to 10:00 AM in Symphony II. Emerging professionals will have the opportunity to meet one on one with practitioners from a variety of backgrounds, including higher education, freelance consultants, and project managers in a fun and fast paced event. Space is limited to the first thirty participants, so be sure to sign up by following this link! If you would like to serve as a speed networking mentor, please email klafollette@csumb.edu.

Workshops
Pre-registration for workshops is required, but space is still available in select workshops. If you are interested in a workshop but haven’t pre-registered, check availability at the OHA registration desk.

Internet
Free Wi-Fi is available in conference meeting rooms and public spaces this year. The password is OHA2017. Guests staying at the Hilton will also receive complimentary internet in their rooms. You may see a charge when you connect in your room, but that should be waived when you check out of the hotel.

Social Media Guide
Live-tweeting from sessions is encouraged, unless a presenter requests otherwise. The official conference hashtag: #OHA2017

Travel
For those flying to Minneapolis, the MSP airport website is the best source of ground transportation information. MSP ground transportation information can be found at https://www.mspairport.com/directions/ground-transportation. The Hilton does not provide shuttle service to or from the airport but you may use SuperShuttle, the vendor authorized by the airport. You can make a reservation ahead of time at https://www.supershuttle.com/ or at the airport.

If you are driving, you can park at the Hilton deck or the two public decks adjacent to the hotel. A list of parking options is available at Minneapolis Parking Ramps.
