Summary
Rutgers University has a substantial collection of World War II oral histories. Located in New Jersey, the repository collects the oral histories of Rutgers Alumni as well as New Jersey residents who have fought in World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and the Cold War. The collection is another response to the 50 year anniversary of the end of World War II. With a donation from the class of 1942, the World War II oral history project started.1
Methodology
The transcriptions are done by a professional and reviewed by the staff. After this step, the transcripts go back to the interviewee to look over for errors.2
Exhibits
The collection at Rutgers University has allowed the program to create exhibits for public outreach. One exhibit that took place in 2005 was the “Witnesses to War: Voices From the Rutgers Oral History Archives.” Another use of the Rutgers’s oral history collection was used in 2002 at the Morris Museum. The title of the exhibit was “Share Your Story: Reminiscences from New Jersey World War II Veterans.” The exhibit utilized the oral histories and incorporated them into an exhibit.3
